When it comes to a choice in pharmaceutical education, there are not many choices when you consider core pharmaceutical research. Looking beyond the core pharmaceutical research will show you various other equally good opportunities. With the increasing expansion of pharma industry, the pharma sector requires employees for packaging, production equipment maintenance, nutraceutical specialists, marketing and so on. What should you consider a better choice, the core pharmaceutical research or the sub-categories which have their own perks? It all comes down to your interest and other qualities.

If your interest is in basic pharmaceutical research, then opting for a pre-pharmaceutical course will be the preferred step, followed by a diploma in pharmacy or B.S in pharmacy. Being only an undergraduate, jobs you find may not be satisfactory, monetarily and career wise. Gaining a couple of years of experience in a pharmaceutical firm will give a good idea where you want to go; whether further ahead into research, or the sub careers associated with pharmaceutical research. There are a number of options here. There is one path to follow if you want to be a pharmaceutical researcher – a two-year masters in pharmacy, followed by a doctorate degree. A doctorate in pharmaceuticals is also known as PharmaD in United States and lasts for a period of six years.

Lately the number of candidates opting for a doctorate in pharmaceuticals has dropped considerably. This may be because of the long period of study that a PharmaD candidate has to undergo, studying and supporting himself or herself for eight consecutive years. Although the degree can be useful, the long student life is certainly daunting. However, you might be able to take some of the sub-categories courses the virtual way and get an online health degree.

Lateral entries in the pharmaceutical sector include specialist courses in pharmacy management, nutraceutical diploma, tablet formulations, process management, technicians and such. Teaching in pharmaceuticals may also be a career choice. Educational institutions the world over require pharmaceutical candidates willing to teach.
