First and foremost, many people will choose their pharmacy based on its distance from their home, and this can be a wise choice. Considering you will likely need to visit your pharmacy fairly regularly, or at least once a month, if you are taking regular prescriptions, it can be extremely helpful to have your pharmacy nearby. That said, some pharmacies will deliver or offer some sort of mail service, so you may want to ask around, especially if you might have travel issues. You will obviously also want to factor in the pharmacy’s staff: are they helpful and knowledgeable? You may need to ask questions, and it obviously helps if the staff can answer them for you, without you having to play phone tag with your doctor.
For convenience and other reasons, you will also want to find a pharmacy that can fill all of your prescriptions in one location, rather than having to travel between places. Aside from making travel easier on you, it also helps to have a pharmacy that is knowledgeable from the start about all the medications you are taking, without you having to give them extra information all the time on medications you are not buying from them. It can also be good to look for what other amenities the pharmacy might provide. For example, some pharmacies might provide flavoured syrup in some of their medications to make them more palatable to children, or offer private counseling services. For that matter, some but not all pharmacies might keep stock of things like inhalers or crutches that you may find you end up needing if you did not expect to.
